Winter Fancy Food Show Names the Fig a Top Culinary Trend; Kicks Off Another Year-Long Celebration of Nutritious California Figs

FRESNO, Calif., April 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Highlighted as one of the culinary world's trending items by the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade, figs took center stage at the 37th Annual Winter Fancy Food show in San Francisco this past January. The California Dried and Fresh Fig Industry is pleased to announce the winners of the 2011 YEAR of the FIG- They Draw & Cook Recipe Contest. The competition included over 140 beautiful tasty designs, submitted by talented food illustrators from all over the world.

The Fresno Advertising Federation recognized California Figs for high quality advertising and promotions in its recent ADDY Awards program held in Fresno, CA. Eight entries were designated Gold Medal winners.

California Figs were the featured secret ingredient! Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto competed against Aspen, Colo.-based chef, Dena Marino, in the first-ever fig challenge. Both chefs used one of the Valley’s most cherished commodities in unique and exciting ways!
