Ingredients

For the Brevas:

  • 6 firm California Fresh Figs
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 star anise

To serve:

  • ¼ cup whipped brie cheese
  • ¼ cup Dulce de Leche (store bought)
  • 12 slices of french baguette, lightly toasted

Directions

  1. With a paring knife remove the stems from the figs.

  2. Cut a slit at the bottom of the figs.

  3. Place them in water for 10 minutes. Discard the water and rinse the figs.

  4. In a saucepan place the figs, add a cup of water, the brown sugar, cinnamon stick and star anise.

  5. Cook over medium heat and bring to a gentle boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook for about 30-40 minutes until the figs turn dark green and the liquid reduces. Remove the figs from the syrup and allow them to cool down.

  6. While the figs are cooling down, slice the baguette and toast it at 350 Fahrenheit for about 5 minutes or until lightly toasted.

  7. Gently open the figs and place a dollop of dulce de leche in the middle. Slice the figs in half.

  8. Spread the whipped brie cheese on top of the toasted bread and top with the figs and enjoy!
